Top 5 best beaches in the Netherlands
The Netherlands is one of the few countries which is situated below sea-level. A visit to the beach is a must when staying in the Netherlands. Dutch weather is famous for being sunny and warm one day, and rainy and clouded the next. None the less on those sunny and warm days the beach is a great place to visit. The variety of beaches and activities are endless in the Netherlands, but here are our favourites.
1. Scheveningen
One of the most well-known beaches in the Netherlands is Scheveningen, near The Hague. It is a lively beach which is surrounded by walking routes, restaurants and shops. Scheveningen is well known for its famous pier that has an event complex on it and a sixty-meter-high look-out-platform that even allows you to bungee jump from it. Whereas the rest of the Dutch beaches have a small town, Scheveningen is situated in The Hague. This makes it very convenient to combine a beach tour with a city tour.
From Htel Serviced apartments it would take you approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes by public transport.
2. Zandvoort & Bloemendaal aan Zee
Zandvoort is another extremely popular beach in Holland. The beach has plenty of room for all sorts of activities like surfing or kitesurfing. Zandvoort beach also offers a wide array of beach pavilions to sit down and relax.
Want to party at the beach? Bloemendaal aan Zee is the place to go to for trendy beach clubs. It is connected to Zandvoort aan Zee so when taking a stroll along the beach, you will end up in Bloemendaal aan Zee at some point.
From Htel Serviced apartments it would take you approximately 45 minutes by public transport.
3. Amsterdam’s city beaches
With Amsterdam being a mayor city and the nearest beach being about 45 minutes away, some people came up with the clever idea of creating city beaches. In the South of Amsterdam (behind the Rai Event Center) you will find Strand Zuid. Strand Zuid is known for its wide range of activities and well accessible location. Here you can relax on one of the sunbeds, but often there are party’s or business events too.
IJburg is a more conventional beach, in the East side of Amsterdam (IJburg). Did you know it’s Europe's first city beach?
From Htel Serviced apartments it would take you approximately 15 minutes by public transport.
4. Egmond aan Zee
Egmond aan Zee is known for being the number one family beach in the Netherlands. Apart from the beach, it also has a museum and an aquarium, and the light house greets every visitor when entering the former fishing village. Yet the main attraction that is totally natural are the dunes. So don’t be surprised to stumble upon wild horses or foxes when walking about in the dunes.
From Htel Serviced apartments it would take you approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes by public transport.
5. Texel
A bit far out, and not even on the mainland, but totally worth a visit. The fun already starts when taking the ferry from Den Helder to the island of Texel. Cycle around the island, meet some of the sheep on the island (more sheep than people) or go ‘wadlopen’. Wadlopen can be done as soon as low-tide kicks in, when this happens the water pulls out into the ocean and exposes the muddy seabed. A small word of advise, only do this with a guide. And don’t forget to bring some old hiking shoes, because it’s going to be muddy.
Our Resident Service Desk will be glad to give you more information about how to get there, or other nice beaches that might not be on this list.
