There are no translations available.

IBC Amsterdam 2010 - HighlightsThe International Broadcasting Convention is coming up, 9 through 14 September 2010 in Amsterdam. It’s Europe’s largest professional broadcast show and known as The Content Creation Management Experience. Innovation and opportunities are a guarantee.  This event takes place annually in the RAI Exhibition and Convention Centre Amsterdam. I have created a summary for you of what I believe are the highlights of the event. For broadcasting industry people, this is the event to visit the town during your short stay in Amsterdam.

The Connected World: a 2010 debut.

Being connected has a more important meaning than ever before and is an understanding to us all. Devices and technology that are used to connect are more and more diverse. Consumers use more and more types of devices to experiment. Think of notebooks, netbooks and tablets to broadband-enabled TV’s, game consoles. Consumers have access to new ways to find and use media.

“Apps” have had a tremendous influence on the Connected World by enabling numerous media giants to help consumers find attractive and fun content for their mobiles phones. Apps are now being developed at high speed for other portable devices and even the popular IPTV.

The Connected World in Hall 9 allows independent broadcasters to reach consumers directly.

Also Featured in Hall 9:

  • The popular IPTV, Mobile and Digital Signage zones. Here you can see the newest opportunities for the electronic media industry for distribution by IP, broadband and mobile devices.
  • A series of free-admission seminars and presentations to help visitors understand the opportunities and their impact on the Connected World.
  • ‘Armchair revolution sessions’ introduce you to the Connected World by examining the new landscape in which consumers - and not the traditional providers – are setting the agenda for tomorrow’s broadcast industry.
  • The ever-popular Exhibition Business Briefings. IBC visitors can learn from experiences of providers that are already building businesses on fixed and wireless broadband technologies, IPTV, Mobile and Digital Signage.
  • The Demo Stage @ The Hub hosts demonstrations that illustrate how content is and will be managed, distributed and consumed across the most diverse consumer electronic devices.

The new technology campus

This is the exhibition space for international research organisations and developers to demonstrate their finest collaborative projects.

Featured in Hall 6:

  • The newest technologies for capture, production, networked distribution and display of 3D sound and 3D imaging.
  • Live demonstrations from Members of quirky innovations that show the way the broadcasting industry may move forward. Think of mobile service enhancements, 3DTV and holograms. The holograms remind me of the Star War movies, and it blasts me away to see how far we’ve come since I sat in the movie theater watching Star Wars.

IBC Big screen

Get to know the newest and latest in cinema technology. This is one of the highlights of the show. In the main hall the auditorium seats over 1700 people, who can watch movies and presentations screened using the very latest 2k, 4k or 3D projection, as well as 5.1 surround sound.

Featured on the IBC Big screen:

  • Monday you’ll find 3D conference sessions, obviously presented on the screen. This may well be one of the hottest topics in the digital media world today.
  • On Saturday at 18:30 you’ll find a special screening of The Walt Disney Company’s Pixar Animation Studios production of Toy Story 3. A showcase for 3D and digital surround sound 7.1, just like the movie was when it came out in 1995.
  • On Monday at 18:30 you can watch a screening of Avatar (special edition, containing 8 additional minutes of content)

Other cool stuff

  • camera IBCSuper Hi-Vision, yet another leap forward from HD. Super Hi-Vision has 16 times more resolution, more progressive frames per second and more audio channels.
  • Practical full-resolution cameras, with 3 image sensors of 33 million pixels.
  • The overall exhibition with over 1300 exhibitors, 11 Halls. It’s the biggest in Europe of its kind.
  • The conference, where attendees van hear some of the biggest industry influencers speak about expected future developments.
  • The IBC2010 Mobile Guide, available for download with complete instructions on http://www.ibc.org/page.cfm/Link=312/t=m/goSection=3 . On the IBC website itself you’ll also be able to see the full event info and everything else that I missed.

Visiting IBC and still looking for affordable accomodation that is not overly distant? We still have space in Htel Amstelveen. By metro line 51 it takes less then 15 minutes from metro Ouderkerkerlaan to metro station RAI, where IBC Amsterdam is held.
