Any expat will tell you that it is hard to get settled with few or no friends to show you around in Amsterdam. This goes for any destination, and every expat. I can confirm this; I personally went through it, in New York and in Spain.
Hence we have some personal recommendations about fun events and things to do in Amsterdam and surroundings.
Expat Welcome Event 2010 (June 8th 2010):
- Senior level cultural and business exchange for expatriates working in Amsterdam
- Organized at Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw
- Program includes comedy by Boom Chicago, a live performance of the Royal orchestra and a walking dinner
- Ideal for networking and meet-and greet

ZOOmeravonden at Artis Zoo (every Saturday in June, July, August):
- A hotspot for families, animal lovers and party animals
- Organized at Artis, in the city center of Amsterdam
- Live music, stage and theater performances on location
- Every Saturday summer evening (English translation of ZOOmeravond), till sunset
Open air theater at Vondel Park (6 June through 29 August):
- The trendiest park of the city right in the heart of Amsterdam, the Vondelpark
- Live theater performances- mainly Dutch spoken
