Spa Amsterdam – sauna massage and relaxing therapiesIndeed, I am talking to you! Take it easy, sit back. Yes, I know, you’re too busy to take a short break. And I understand. Your life is probably a bit like mine. It’s high season, business is thriving. Your life is led by your agenda and your inbox and all the rest. But…… I am here to bring you a sparkle of hope during your short stay in Amsterdam.

I am a firm believer of taking a regular break. Even if it’s only for a couple of hours. And I have the perfect solution for these couple of hours. Take it from me, a visit to one of these spa’s will take out the stress that has built itself up inside your body during these busy times. Package your spa daytrip up with a massage, and you’ll be good to go till Christmas. Guaranteed. Here are some of my favorite spa’s in the vicinity of Amsterdam.

Sauna Deco

This is perhaps the most beautiful spa and massage center of the entire country. It looks small from the outside but it’s large on the inside. The building was designed in 1890 by the Dutch architect Hendrik Petrus Berlage.

Sauna Deco staircaseArt deco, art deco in each and every corner. This is what makes a visit to this spa worth a small trip. Have you ever been to Le Bon Marche, Paris, Rue de Sevres, 7th district? No, I am not talking about a recent visit, more like a visit in the 1960’s. Le Bon Marche was modernized in the 1970’s, and turned into the modern department store it is today. Sauna Deco got most of it’s decoration and furnishings here before the refurbishment.

For example, the staircase made out of wood and bronze that leads up to the relaxation area used to serve Parisian clientele at Le Bon Marche to go up from one floor to the next.  And the beautiful stained-glass panels in the lounge and the small pool come from the ceiling of the store in Paris. Obviously, this is also exactly where Sauna Deco got its name.

Koan Float

Forget about trying to relax. You simply can’t avoid not relaxing in a tank filled with very salty water. The technique is not that well known, but let me tell you how much I love it.

Koan FloatLower yourself in one of the tanks filled with highly salted water. It takes a couple of minutes to adjust, but then the unique experience of feeling weightless takes over.  All muscles and organs get a maximum opportunity to relax. Your breathing slows down, the rhythm of your heartbeat calms down. The environment, the warmth, and the feeling of weightlessness combined provide an ideal way to let go of the turbulence of daily life. Your thoughts will disappear into nothingness. Koan Float welcomes you to a different dimension.

Spa Zuiver

Spa ZuiverSauna Spa Zuiver (Spa Pure) is in the Amsterdamse Bos (Amsterdam Forest). An obvious combination that I just thought of is combining a visit to Zuiver with a walk through the forest.

I picked this Spa because of it’s modern design. Once inside you’ll walk down a staircase that gives an impressive view of the complex, 13.000 square meters of pure relaxation. Zuiver combines wellbeing with a feeling of luxury.

Obviously, Spa Zuiver offers a very wide range of choice in terms of facilities and treatments, both outside and inside.
