Restaurant Tip: Dauphine cafe restaurant

Cafe Restaurant Dauphine

I love food. I have an absolute weak for good food, and I enjoy going to restaurants. Therefore this pick of the month is, again, about a restaurant. If you are anything like me, and you're here during a short stay in Amsterdam, I suggest that you visit cafe- restaurant Dauphine somewhere in the upcoming weeks.

Cafe-restaurant Dauphine is a cosmopolitan place in Amsterdam.  The name, Dauphine, is derived from the Renault Dauphine- a very popular and fancy car in the fifties. Now, why pick the name of a car for a restaurant? The reason lies in the location, the restaurant actually used to be a Renault garage, hence the nostalgic chosen name.

I personally had a bunch of really nice dinners at the restaurant already, often together with colleagues. The food is good, the atmosphere is awesome, very vibrant. The place simply has this buzz when it gets crowded. And the good part is, it's almost always crowded. Often there are more people walking in than there are tables available, so people wait for a table next to the bar. Personally, more then once already, I walked into business relations and friends that were having a drink at the bar.

Entrance DauphineThe venue is stunningly large, the impressive entrance displayed on the image to your right speaks for itself. I personally very much like the interior design. It's neat, modern and has a cosmopolitan feel.

Dauphine is not overly expensive, they serve excellent brasserie food, and have a very attractive and worldly wine menu. I am undoubtedly not the best sommelier in town, but I have been told that the Wines @ Dauphinewines, including the bigger names on the list, are not expensive compared to other restaurants where similar wines are served.

The service at Dauphine generally speaking is good, even though you can tell that not all of the waiters have a service industry background. Most importantly though, they are friendly and correctly motivated to treat you well, which always makes the difference that I look for.

The atmosphere is corporate oriented, it matches the setting and the surroundings.  On Fridays corporate is a bit too present for me personally, however if this is your thing, go and see it. Dauphine is practically always crowded, so make reservations far enough in advance. Our reception staff will happily assist you in making a reservation for you.

Parking is available in the basement, guests park their car for free. By public transportation, just head towards Amstel Station, the restaurant is right next to it.

To me, Dauphine is simply a great place to eat & drink. I hope you'll enjoy the visit as much as I always do.
