Restaurant Balthazar's Keuken
Balthazar's Keuken is not a place for fussy eaters. No choice about the dishes, which means: They create, you enjoy!
Once I entered the former smithy with its open kitchen with pans and utensils hanging in plain view, I simply had to agree I discovered one of Amsterdam's most special restaurants.
It's tiny, seating just about 30 inside and a few more on the bijou terrace in fine weather.
Owners Karen Gaasterland and Alain Parry create internationally-inflected three-course fixed-price dinners, with a menu that changes every week.
The starters are tidbits meant to appeal to all, served with bread. For the main course you can choose either meat or fish and there is only one dessert. House wine is from the Languedoc, chosen to complement the Mediterranean-inspired cuisine. Dinner only Wednesday through Friday and is served in two shifts.
Delicious food in a warm and cozy atmosphere, it's like being at friends for dinner...
