Winter Magic in Amsterdam

As from the 10th of December the streets are decorated with lights, Glühwein (or mulled wine) is flowing freely, and one will find several large Christmas trees throughout the city on the different squares.
There is a list of activities to attend this year again in Amsterdam, during the Christmas period. Unfortunately we cannot highlight all, but we have made a selection in order to present an option to all sorts of travelers, enjoying the Christmas days during their short stay in Amsterdam.
Traditional Activities
The Concert Hall in Amsterdam will host a FREE concert on the 24th December with world renown pianist Jan Vayne behind the piano.
For people who do not know Jan Vayne, he became famous in 1997 when he played in the Shakespeare Library, in Washington, for President Bill Clinton.
Royal Theatre Carré will host the 27th World Christmas Circus, from the 22th of December until the 8th of January. With 2011 Golden Clown winner Bello Nock, the Lion King Martin Lacey, and the new flying trapeze from the Pyongyang National Circus.
The National Music Theatre will host a ballet presentation, called the Nutcracker & Mice king, during the entire December month.
This splendid piece from Tchaikovsky performed in this wonderful location, located alongside one of the Amsterdam Canals make it a must see for the classical arts enthusiast
Activities off the beaten path:
Not really a fan of all the traditional celebrations? Then we have a great tip, book a seat at the 120 meter long table in the Old Church, where the winter parade will be hosting a fun filled evening with live performances on the table from the 21st until the 26th of December. In need of a healthy dose of humor and a nice dinner,then check out BOOM Chicago. This comedy establishment will host a special Christmas show from the 12th until the 26th of December
Christmas Markets
It is the time of the year to decorate you homes, temporary homes, or just shop for gifts for Christmas – during your short stay in Amsterdam. You will find an assortment of different markets all around Amsterdam, all easily accessible by public transportation, for all sorts of travelers.
A new twist on the traditional Christmas market can be found in the Westergasfabriek where the Funky Xmas market will take place on the 4th of December from noon until 6 pm. If there isn’t enough time to check out everything, at the Westergasfabriek, then there is another Christmas market on the 17th of December on the Sint Jansstraat, also from noon until 6 pm, where one could possibly find some night gifts, or just check out the merchandise
Never been ice skating, or just dying to tie those skates back under, then visit the Rembrandtplein, where winterland Amsterdam will host a Christmas market and will build an ice rink, from the 2nd of December until the 8th of January.
For the people wishing to buy a Christmas Pine, or just some flowers, there is a wonderful holiday season market arranged. The most interesting place to shop for a Christmas pine will be the Koningsplein, where a floating flower market will be set up, and a bonus is just around the corner. The bonus being the Christmas Palace which is open year round for the Christmas enthusiasts among us.
New Years Celebrations:
There are a multitude of celebrations, all throughout Amsterdam, however the biggest and easiest to attend will be the celebration on Amsterdam’s Museumplein. The entrance is free and live music will be there from several well known artists and Dj’s. If you choose to visit a different party there is a list under the following link
